Curatorial Concept: 

 Historically, painting has functioned as a primary medium for the inscription of cultural memory. From the earliest parietal markings to the manuscript illuminations of the Islamic Golden Age, it has documented the social, political, and spiritual realities of its time, as well as the sensibilities that shaped those moments. Across centuries and cultures, the painted surface has preserved not only what was seen, but how it was felt. In 1908, art historian Wilhelm Worringer argued in Abstraction and Empathy that “we sense ourselves in the forms of a work of art,” suggesting that the viewer’s engagement with form — whether representational or abstract — is fundamentally empathetic. In this light, the historic role of painting as a record of the world also becomes an act of relation: it invites us to enter the perspective of another, to share in their vision and their inner landscape. Empathy, here, is not merely an emotional reaction but a cognitive and imaginative practice, one that bridges distance between self and other.

على مر التاريخ، كان الرسم وسيطًا أساسيًا لنقش الذاكرة الثقافية. وثّق الرسم الواقع الاجتماعي والسياسي والروحي لعصره من أقدم العلامات الجدارية إلى زخارف المخطوطات في العصر الذهبي الإسلامي، كما عبّر عن المحسوسات التي شكّلت تلك اللحظات.

حفظ اللوح المرسوم كل ما يُرى وكل ما يُدرك على امتداد القرون والثقافات.

ناقش المؤرخ الفني فيلهلم فورينغر،عام 1908، في كتابه التجريد والتعاطف بأننا "نستشعر أنفسنا من خلال أشكال الفن"، مشيرًا إلى أن تفاعل المتلقي مع النمط الفني — سواء كان تمثيليًا أو تجريديًا — هو في جوهره فعل تعاطفي. ومن هذا المنظور، فإن الدور التاريخي للرسم كتوثيق للعالم من حولنا يصبح بمثابة تجسيد للعلاقة: إذ يدعونا للدخول في منظور الآخر، ومشاركة رؤيته ومشهده الداخلي. وهنا لا يُنظر إلى التعاطف بوصفه مجرد استجابة عاطفية، بل ممارسة معرفية وتخيلية، تمثل المسافة بين الذات والآخر.

Artist Brief:  

This open call invites painters to engage with empathy as both subject and method. We welcome works that act as witnesses – to personal or collective memory, to the emotional resonance of place, and to the process of understanding ourselves as artists. Submissions may be figurative, abstract, or hybrid, but should embody the exhibition's central proposition: that painting can connect us across time, space, and experience. Whether through the intimacy of realism or the universality of abstraction, we seek paintings that reveal the intertwined nature of memory, perception, and feeling, and that remind us of empathy's enduring necessity in our contemporary moment.

تدعو هذه الدعوة المفتوحة الفنانين إلى استكشاف التعاطف كموضوع وكأسلوب في العمل.

نرحب بالأعمال التي تشهد على الذاكرة الشخصية أو الجماعية، وعلى الأثر العاطفي للمكان، وعلى رحلة فهم الفنان لذاته.

يمكن أن تكون الأعمال واقعية، تجريدية، أو مزيجًا بينهما، على أن تعكس فكرة المعرض الأساسية: قدرة الرسم على بناء الصلة بيننا عبر الزمن والمكان والتجارب.

سواء من خلال صدق الواقعية أو شمولية التجريد، نبحث عن لوحات تكشف العلاقة المتشابكة بين الذاكرة والإحساس والإدراك، وتذكرنا بأهمية التعاطف الدائمة في عالمنا المعاص

 YSA’10 Key Points:

 Deadline: November 2, 2025 

 Selected Artists Announcement: late November 2025 

Estimated Timeline for Developing Artworks alongside the Curator: November 2025 – January 2026 

 A limited grant will be provided to the selected artists to execute their artistic vision. 

Applicants may apply with either an Existing Artwork or a Proposal for a New Work. 

 Exhibition Date: Late January 2026 TBC 

Exhibition Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

 YSA’10 Application Process Prerequisite: 

All applicants must apply through the form below. 

All applicants must upload a CV (2 pages MAX). 

All applicants must upload a Portfolio of previous work. 

 All applicants must apply with either Existing Work or a Proposal for a New Work: 

           - Existing Work:

Selecting a completed work from your existing portfolio/collection that you believe aligns with the exhibition’s curatorial concept.

Requirements: image, title, year, medium, dimensions, and if relevant audio/video link.

 Painting must be the primary medium or incorporated as an element. 

           - Proposal for a New Work: 

A concept note with a visual reference (sketch, image reference, or outline) plus a 

short explanatory text describing the concept/direction.

 Proposal will be judged alongside your portfolio.

 Painting must be the central medium or incorporated as an element.

الشروط الأساسية:

يجب على جميع المتقدمين تعبئة نموذج التقديم أدناه.

يجب على جميع المتقدمين رفع السيرة الذاتية (بحد أقصى صفحتين).

يجب على جميع المتقدمين رفع ملف أعمالهم الفنية السابقة 

التقديم متاح إما بعمل فني قائم أو بمقترح لعمل فني جديد،

:العمل الفني القائم-

اختيار عمل مكتمل من أعمالك السابقة أو مجموعتك الفنية تعتقد أنه يتماشى مع المفهوم القيّمي للمعرض.

المتطلبات: صورة العمل الفني،  عنوان العمل الفني ، سنة الإنتاج، الخامة، الأبعاد، ورابط صوتي/مرئي إن وجد.

يجب أن يكون الرسم هو الوسيط الرئيسي أو أحد العناصر الأساسية في العمل.

مقترح لعمل فني جديد:

مذكرة تتضمن مفهوم العمل الفني ومرجعاً بصرياً له (رسم تخطيطي، صورة مرجعية، أو مخطط أولي) 

نص قصير يشرح الفكرة أو الاتجاه الفني.

سيتم تقييم المقترح القني الجديد إلى جانب ملف الأعمال الفنية 

يجب أن يكون الرسم هو الوسيط المركزي أو جزءاً أساسياً من العمل الفني.

 YSA’10 Applicant Criteria:

Open to Saudi nationals and residents. 

This edition is dedicated to existing or new paintings; submissions may be figurative, abstract, or hybrid. 

 Open to emerging and early-career artists who are committed to developing their practice. 

Applicants should be considering art as a professional path.

متاح للمواطنين والمقيمين في المملكة العربية السعودية.

و تشمل الأعمال المجازية أو التجريدية أو المدمجة بينهما هذه الدورة مخصّصة لفن الرسم 

مخصص للفنانين الناشئين وفي بدايات مسيرتهم الملتزمين بتطوير ممارستهم الفنية.

مخصص للمتقدمين الذين يفكّرون في اتخاذ الفن كمسار مهني احترافي.

 YSA’10 Evaluation Criteria:

 Artists will be selected by a committee alongside the curator. Successful submissions will be evaluated on the following:

 Painting Parameters - Broad exploration of painting is encouraged, including mixed-media, digital-to-painting adaptations, textiles, and other experimental approaches. - The work must remain painting-led. 

Artistic Skills - The work will be evaluated on the level of technical skill executed based on the previous work submitted in the artist’s portfolio.

Conceptual Thinking - The work in the portfolio submitted must express a concept that is well researched and developed. 

 Artwork Submission:

           a. Existing Works: Assessed on quality, execution, and how the work engages with painting (as medium or incorporated element), considered in relation to the applicant’s body of work. 

           b. Proposals for New Works: Assessed on clarity of concept note, strength of visual reference, and feasibility, judged alongside the applicant’s portfolio. The proposal must have painting as the central medium or incorporate painting as an element. 

      5.  Originality and Authenticity - All works will be evaluated on originality. - The work must present an original and authentic contemporary outlook of the theme that reflects the artist’s unique imagination and intuition. - Innovate, do not imitate.

سيتم اختيار الفنانين من قبل لجنة متخصصة بالتعاون مع القيّمة الفنية وسيتم تقييم المشاركات الناجحة وفقاً للمعايير التالية

معايير الرسم: نشجع الاستكشاف الواسع لمفهوم الرسم، بما في ذلك الوسائط المختلطة، إعادة صياغة الأعمال الرقمية إلى شكلٍ تشكيلي مرسوم، الأعمال القائمة على النسيج، والمقاربات التجريبية الأخرى. يجب أن يبقى العمل قائماً على الرسم.

المهارات الفنية : تُقيّم الأعمال بناءً على مستوى المهارة التقنية المنفذة، استناداً إلى الأعمال السابقة المقدمة في ملف الفنان.

الرؤية الفكرية للمفهوم : يجب أن تعكس الأعمال المقدمة مفهوم مدروس تم تطويره وبحثه.

 تقييم الأعمال الفنية المقدمة

-  الأعمال القائمة

تُقيّم الأعمال الفنية القائمة بناءً على جودتها الفنية وتنفيذها، وكيفية تعاملها مع الرسم كوسيط رئيسي أو عنصر مدمج، مع مراعاة سياقها ضمن مجمل أعمال الفنان.

- المقترحات للأعمال الجديدة

 تُقيّم بناءً على وضوح فكرة العمل من حيث المفهوم ، قوة المرجع البصري، ومدى إمكانية تنفيذ العمل، بالإضافة إلى جودة ملف الأعمال المقدم. يجب أن يكون الرسم الوسيط المركزي أو مكوناً أساسياً من العمل الفني.

      5. الأصالة والابتكار

تُقيّم جميع الأعمال بناءً على أصالتها. يجب أن تقدم رؤية معاصرة وأصيلة للموضوع تعكس خيال الفنان وحدسه الفريد.

الإبداع مطلوب — ابتكر ولا تقلّد.

يُعدّ برنامج YSA البرنامج الرائد لمؤسسة أثر، حيث يهدف إلى دعم الفنانين السعوديين الناشئين والمقيمين في المملكة من خلال الإرشاد الفني، ودعم الإنتاج، والتطوير القيّمي، وفرص الانتشار المهني. منذ انطلاقه عام 2011، أسهم البرنامج في إطلاق المسيرة الفنية لأكثر من 150 فنانً.

:عن النسخة العاشرة (2026)

تركّز هذه النسخة حصريًا على فن الرسم المعاصر، وتجمع بين قيّم فني مرموق عالميًا ولجنة اختيار رفيعة المستوى.

سينطلق المعرض في الرياض خلال ذروة الموسم الفني، بالتزامن مع بينالي الدرعية.
